compasscard

Compass is a reloadable fare card that works everywhere on transit in Metro Vancouver. It’s convenient, easy to use, safe and secure. Now you can load fare products onto one card and tap your way across the system.

Load

There are three ways to load your compass card. You can reload it below, through Compass Vending Machines (CVMs) or in-person through Translink Customer Service.

Tap

Simply tap in when you start your journey and tap out when exiting or transferring. Remember, buses are tap in only, so there's no need to tap out when exiting. When you tap out, the system calculates the fare zones you've travelled and charges you the correct fare.

Buy the right zone! All bus-only travel is a one-zone fare. Multiple zone fares still apply for rail and SeaBus travel. Visit our One-Zone Bus Travel page for more information.

Your fare is determined by your mode of travel, time of day, and how many zones you travel in. Buses are a one-zone fare, all day, every day, while SkyTrain and SeaBus require a one-, two-, or three-zone fare, depending on the time of day and number of geographical zone boundaries you cross during your trip. After 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays, travel across the entire Metro Vancouver region only requires a one-zone fare. A single fare is valid for 90 minutes. If you pay cash or use a FareSaver (no longer sold) on the bus, you’ll need to purchase a Compass Card or Compass Ticket when you transfer to rail or SeaBus.

In order to pay the lowest fare and transfer seamlessly across all modes of travel (bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus, and West Coast Express), purchase a Compass Card and load it with Stored Value, a DayPass, or a Monthly Pass. Visit our Compass page to learn more about all the benefits Compass offers.

With card registration, you can set automatic top-ups or pass renewals. Card registration also includes balance protection, in case your card is lost or stolen. Register and set-up your AutoLoad.

Just log into your account and select the pass product or Stored Value amount you'd like to automatically reload. Then select the AutoLoad link. Monthly Passes will automatically reload when you tap your card (e.g. at the start of a new month). Stored Value is topped up whenever your balance drops below $5.

AutoLoads are charged to your credit card or bank account when you tap your Compass Card at a reader and the product is loaded. Monthly Pass AutoLoad commuters are able to validate their next pass during the last five days of the month. For example: if a Monthly Pass AutoLoad commuter taps in on May 28, their June pass is loaded and ready to be active for June 1.
